Piran and Lipica Stud Farm
Full-day excursion
After breakfast, we will visit the town of Piran, the birthplace of the Baroque composer Giuseppe Tartini. The main square is named after him and surrounded by inspiring Venetian and Austro-Hungarian buildings, among which the composer's birth house. We will visit a museum dedicated to him and have the experience to hear his work played on the original Tatrini's violin. A stroll through the old streets will lead us to the St. George's church with a marvellous view of the cost and the Alps.
The Lipica stud farm is the pioneer, which started breeding Lipizzaner white horses. In 1580 the Archduke of Austria Charles II decided to buy an abandoned palace in the Kras region and to found a stud for the needs of the Viennese court. Spanish horses were mixed with Arabic, Neapolitan and Kladruber breeds to get a robust white horse, at first used for transport and later for the Spanish Riding School. Visit of stables, the modern Lipizzaner Museum Lipikum and the show of classical riding school.
